About Us
1954 - A new Honeytastic cereal is born
Believe it or not but Sugar Puffs actually existed a long time before we discovered Honey Monster! Since the 1930's, there has been a breakfast cereal called Puffed Wheat. Whilst it certainly was very healthy, packed with wholegrain, it didn't have that extra yummyness that kids need. Then in 1954 a bright spark at our Southall Factory (or Honey Monster HQ as it's now called) came up with the idea of covering these puffed grains of wheat with a delicious coating of honey. That was the day our furry fella's favourite food was invented!
Now, we just had to let people know what a brilliant discovery we had made. We toured the whole country with the Sugar Puffs Train. It visited fairs, fetes and carnivals. Kids could get a ride on the train and were given a free sample of Sugar Puffs so they could taste the honey goodness!
In the sixties the popularity of Sugar Puffs grew even more thanks to the efforts of our first fluffy friend and Honey Monster's predecessor, "Jeremy the Bear". He starred in adverts and featured on the front of the packs for many years.
1976 - The most famous monster in the land
In 1976 Jeremy retired, and Honey Monster was asked to further spread the word about Sugar Puffs. Being such a big fan of our tasty cereal, Honey was only too happy to help (especially as he could have as many free boxes as he'd like!). In his very first advert Honey Monster starred alongside Henry McGee. He was an actor, famous for working with Benny Hill, and took such good care of Honey Monster that the furry fella would always call him "Mummy". That's also where the famous catch phrase "tell them about the honey, Mummy" came from!
Happily, the kids of Britain took a bit of a shine to Honey Monster and went "Monster Mad for the Honey". Sugar Puffs started flying off the shelves and became one of the most popular breakfast cereals! Over the years Honey became more and more famous. He even got to do all sorts of fun things like pretend to be a spy and play football for Kevin Keegan (they apparently still keep in touch). Once, in 1982, He even got to meet Prince Charles when he came to visit our Honey Monster HQ for a tour of the factory.
2006 - The future's bright, the future's yellow
In 2006 Sugar Puffs were acquired by a new company. We were very happy as Honey Monster was starting to feel a bit unloved by the previous owners. Now, he's back to being the centre of things again and Big Bear even decided to call the company Honey Monster Foods in his honour!
Since then, Honey Monster's been all about his new message; 'Feed the Fun'. So far he's teamed up with the WWE for some ferocious fun in the ring, Fun Kid's Radio so we could all hear about the honey, and even our friends at Variety Club (a charity for disabled and disadvantaged children) to feed the fun for those who deserve it most. He's also returned to TV to spread the word about our brand new Honey Waffles in 2010!
With Honey monster's help, our Honeyologists have been busy bees developing even more tasty treats! We've dipped into chocolate research to create Choco Puffs and Choco Waffles, and invented Monster Puff bars for the monster on the go. We're trying new things all the time, which means lots of delicious limited editions like our brilliant Banana Puffs, scary Spooky Puffs, scrumptious Strawberry Puffs, and heavenly Honeycomb Puffs!
Recently though, Honey Monster went missing, disappearing from our packs and from Honey Monster HQ. We reached out to his best mate, Charlie to help us get him back, with amazing success! With the help of everyone who participated at www.findhoneymonster.co.uk keeping an eye out for our furry fella, we were able to bring him home safe and sound. It was just in time too...if it had been any longer he would have missed out on the launch of our stupendous Snowy Puffs as well as a team up with the other monsters at Nintendo to bring you some great Skylanders goodies in 2012!
We've got even more exciting things planned with Honey Monster to help tell everyone about the honey, so keep an eye out and Honey monster hugs from everyone here at Honey Monster foods (including our furry fella)!
